Native to Spain, so I had my doubts about its hardiness, but my plant made it through its first winter (one with sub-zero temperatures), so I'm hopeful it will be happy with our garden and climate conditions. As seedlings they looked like draba on steroids, with prominent hairs. The spines that the species epithet hints at didn't develop until later (I didn't notice them until spring of their second year).

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. About my plant portraits
