Verbascum phoeniceum 'Violetta' |
 |
|
Rich purple flowers, with the fuzzy stamens typical of mulleins, appear starting in May. The flowers on the bottom of the spike open up first; the bloom then proceeds upward, with the little dark purse-buds opening one by one. The leaves, held in a low-growing basal rosette, aren't much to look at, so we have our plants in busy garden areas, where only the flower spikes draw attention.
