Seed ripens | mid-October |
Somewhat coarse US native wildflower, named for the ridges along its upright stem. The reflexed yellow flowers, in loose clusters, make a splash of color in late summer. We've let a good stand of them grow wild in a back corner of the garden, where they duke it out with a few other assertive perennials. They self-seed prolifically, but luckily they aren't difficult to pull up where they are not desired.

| Masses of flowers in late August |

| Late June - far from flowering, but already vigorously populating our back hillside... |
|
| Two months later, that stand is in full bloom |

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. Seed for this plant is included on my seed trade list One or more images of this plant are included in my stock photo catalog About my plant portraits
