I thought I had grown this species (with limited success), until I found out (see helpful comment below) that it was in fact A. saccaticupula. I may try my hand at A. caesiiglauca again some time.

Visitors to this page have left the following commentsTony Church | Dec 06, 2012 | Hi Rob, I live on the Isle of Arran where I work as a gardener. I'm also a former BSBI recorder for the area so I've had lots of practice doing my best to put the correct name to plants. As you know this is not always easy to do especially with exotics like Acaena. Today the weather was awful so I spent it doing a little research including checking out 2 species of Acaena we have in the garden. One I determined quite easily as A. caesiiglauca but the other one gave me quite a lot of bother. Eventually I tracked it down as A. saccaticupula (awful name!)perhaps 'Blue Haze'. This second species has leaves quite a bit smaller than A. caesiiglauca and has less teeth (5-7). I think the picture above shows these leaves and is probably this. Cheers, Tony Thanks Tony, for your comment here and your follow-up by email. I merged the content previously on this page onto the one for A. saccaticupula. I guess I'll have to grow both species to maturity to truly appreciate their differences... |
