Native to grasslands in Argentina, but I've found this species to be reasonably hardy – the majority of our seedlings got through at least one winter, and one survived two winters. It is a vigorous sprawler, sending its trailing stems out in any direction where it may gain some advantage. I had to wait till the third year to see the greenish soft-fuzzy flowers, which turn into burnished burrs shortly afterwards.
