An abundance of helicopters Common name red maple Family aceraceae Life cycle tree Flowers red (April) Light sun One of two street trees planted by our township when our neighborhood was first built, I think this is a red maple. Certainly the spring flowers, which appear before the leaf buds open, are red, and so is the fall foliage. Not the fastest-growing maple, but doing nicely in our front yard.
