We have several masterwort varieties in our gardens. The offspring of 'Hadspen Blood' have their own page here; others are the regular white-flowered variety, a few rose-colored varieties, and offspring of the 'Sunningdale Variegated' cultivar. The latter, in the picture on this page, are not quite as variegated as their mother, but have a bright cream-yellow-green coloring in early spring, which brightens up the spring borders as much as any flower.

| iain Melville | Aug 15, 2011 | I have been looking for the nglish (British??) name for this wonderful flower, which I never saw in all my 45 years in England, but see so often here in Sweden - mostly growing wild by country roadsides.
Can you supply any more names than Masterwort? I can't imagine that's the only name for it, as it seems to me that the more charming the flower, the more names it has! (the Swedes put it very nicely - "kära barn har många namn" -- "loved children have many names")
I also wonder if this flower is suited to drying, to cheer up the long Swedish winters? |
