Cynodon dactylon |
 |
Common name |
bermuda grass |
Family |
poaceae |
Life cycle |
perennial (Z7-10) |
Lawn grass that spreads by above-ground runners. It grows mainly during times of year when both day and night temperatures are warm, and goes dormant in the cold season. Compared to turf grasses we were used to in Pennsylvania, this grass feels spongy underfoot, and requires more edging maintenance to combat its tendency to cover adjacent surfaces in its runners. It is considered a noxious weed by many, but it's what we got here, so we'll learn to combat its invasive tendencies.
