Charming little wildflower, found in moist areas, such as along riverbanks. I potted the one in the photo up for our plant sale, but just had to take a photo before parting with it (it now has a lucky new owner). Online info says this gets 2-3 ft tall, but our second-year plants haven't topped about 6". We lost ours after a couple years in the garden - re-establishing from seed this year.

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away... About my plant portraits

S. Rivale | Jul 27, 2008 | I found this information when googling myself (Of COURSE I have better things to do...) Anyway, enjoyed the site and the information. |
Gardener Ted | Aug 08, 2011 | I know this plant as 'geum canadensis'. In my yard, it is highly prolific. I freely rip it out and toss it. The plants spread by a rhizome as well as by seed- I have taken to removing ALL the flower stalks before they go to seed - sort of burr-like. I use the plant to edge my "forest" walkways. A very reliable plant for me. (Northern Ontario) |
- Seed from '01 trade. Baggy 70F with light - no germination
- Same seed as above. Pot set outside Feb28; good germination by May1
- Seed from '06 trade. Baggy 35F (3w) - 70F (10d; 2%G, 7d) - 70F with light (5w; 2%G, 6d). Remaining seeds to pot on March 20. Mid-June: 17 seedlings from pot transplanted
Inside treatment not too successful just yet. Perhaps needs longer cold treatment, even though Clothier says it should germinate at room temperature with light.
