Two-toned flowers, fragrant leaves. For once, the flowers look just like the luscious pictures on the plant label! We got ours in a generous plant trade several years ago, and it has grown to claim a sizeable space in our bog-side border (as you can see above, it rather envelopes an unfortunate eremurus that happened to be planted not too far from the nepeta's base).
|
| Grows into a luscious mound of attractively shaped and colored foliage by mid-spring |
|
| Late November - the top growth has been knocked out by the first hard freezes of the season, but the upright stalks with shaggy seedheads have not been knocked down. They will continue to provide a bit of visual interest well into winter. |

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. About my plant portraits

Visitors to this page have left the following commentsDoug | Aug 03, 2011 | I would love to use a "catmint" as a border plant but it needs to be more compact. Any idea if there is such a cultivar? There are other nepetas (such as N. racemosa) that are lower-growing – but they are rather different in overall appearance than this cultivar. So it depends on exactly what you're looking for. I'm not personally aware of a smaller version of 'Sweet Dream'. |
- Seed from '07 trade. Baggy 70F (2%G, 10d). The single sprouted seed did not develop.
