Purchased this as a perennial at a local nursery, online references and my big plant encyclopedia quote its hardiness as Z8-9. So I just stuck my two plants in the ground and kept my fingers crossed. So far, one of them has come through two winters, and bloomed the third year. Compared to photos I've seen of the species, ours is an ugly duckling - perhaps it will grow into its beauty...

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. About my plant portraits
