Popular series of landscape roses, renowned for their disease resistance. We're late to the party, but ordered a 'Pink Knockout' earlier this year along with a couple of floribunda roses (I had a rose envy complex, having never grown roses worth looking at). For some reason, the mail order company messed up and sent the pink one way late. Then they forgot they sent it, ran out of the pink one, and sent a 'Double Knockout' rose "replacement". I planted both – the first came as a large bare-root plant, the second as a small potted plant. The 'Pink' quickly grew to four feet tall and floriferous in its second year in the garden. The 'Double' makes beautiful flowers, but stayed much smaller for several years. After several years, they had both grown to substantial rosebushes, requiring annual pruning to stay within their allotted space.
Following our move to Houston, we still grow Knockout roses – the builder landscaping package installed in our front yard includes a red variety similar to 'Double Knockout', and we bought a creamy yellow 'Sunny Knockout' for the back yard. Neither has done as well as our Pennsylvania specimens, most likely because of the heat they have to endure in summer.
