Popular species with deep purple-blue flowers that appear over a long season of bloom, and contrast nicely with apple-green crinkly leaves. The variety 'Black & Bloom' has clearer blue flowers that open from dusky black buds, but the regular species is perfectly nice as well, with purple flowers and the same dusky calyxes. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.

| Quite a robust plant by early June, easily obscuring the milkweed behind it |
