detailed seed-starting info below

These silly things bloomed a little bit shortly after they were raised from seed inside, and then spent the entire summer doing nothing much at all. Then, by late summer, they stretched themselves out, showing their woolly-white stems more prominently, and finally got around to some real flower display – starting with cute little fuzzy purple nubs. Once the flowers really got underway, it was clear there were two varieties: one was a white/purple bicolor (probably closest to the species), the others were all purple (probably something close to the cultivar 'Midnight'). Both are splendid.
