Botanical confusion here. There are two plants online identified with the common name 'Belize sage' - S. pansamalensis and S. miniata. Both species, according to my online taxonomic references, are valid. Neither has, as far as I can tell from online photos, the dark purple stems that are so prominent on my plant. I bought my plant as pansamalensis, so that's how I refer to it until I learn otherwise. In any case, it's a bold red-flowered salvia whose hardiness in our garden is questionable. It supposedly prefers part shade, but I put it in a spot where it will get most-day sun, and hope it does OK. Native to south Mexico and Belize.
