Unlike other skullcaps we grow, this one stays low and is suitable as a front-of-border groundcover. The leaves are small and glossy, making for an attractive plant even when not in flower. The soft yellow flowers don't appear in large masses, but come steadily over a long season of bloom.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston. Read about all the skullcaps in our garden About my plant portraits

Visitors to this page have left the following commentsMaggie Freeman | May 18, 2009 | I live in Alabama and had bought some of this oriental skullcap at Lowe's last year but can't find any this year. Do you know where I might could order some?
Thanks. |
Karen Campbell | May 28, 2009 | For Maggie Freeman, the Lowes in Tennessee just got a shipment of these in a couple of days ago. You might check your local store. |
Edward K. Rose | Jul 12, 2011 | I am very much interested in the current botanical name of this Scutellaria. Any help is much appreciated. As far as I can tell, S. orientalis is still in common use, at least in horticulture. Have the botanists decided it should be named differently? |
