Native to the central and southwestern United States, this skullcap sports small gray-green leaves, and purple-blue flowers with blue-spotted white central features in late spring. It bloomed as a first-year plant with a sprawly habit (see photo below), but in its subsequent years it had a nicely upright bushy form. So far, it's definitely stayed on the short end of the height range above. Ours inhabited the rock garden, where its drought tolerance and colorfulness are great assets. Unfortunately it didn't last past its third year.
